Beautiffy your Weekly Spread with DIY Pockets - Kim

Posted on October 07 2016

Yay! It's finally Friday! I've been down with the flu all this week but I hope new VB Design Team has given you some fabulous ideas on how to use VB Stickers and Kits for your planning needs. I've been a fan of Kim's ever since I saw her planner creations on IG and it was such a pleasure for her to want to join the VB family. Get to know Kim and then watch her YouTube DIY video on how to create some pockets for your planner.

Brief background of who you are, what you do, etc. Basically a 411 of YOU!

I am a 40 (Akkk!) year old mother to 4 sporty, smelly and sweet boys ranging in the ages of 4 to 16 and lucky enough to be married to my favorite person in the world who lets me be a stay at home mom.  When not doing laundry, I love memory keeping by scrapbook and pocket pages and to creatively plan to make sure I don't routinely forget someone at sports practice or what I'm feeding them next!

Who or What inspire you the most?

I love IG!  Just one look at all those planner girl posts out there makes me want to push and create so differently for them the next week!  I just have so many ideas - I fell like I'm gonna burst most of the time!

Describe your style of planning and what planner(s) are you using at the moment?

I'm a modern functional with flair kinda girl!  With all these boys to keep in a row, planning is paramount for me.  But to this ex-pageant girl, there is NO WAY I can be denied some sparkle and sass!

What is your must-have planner supplies or planner accessories?

I adore the idea of colored pens, have collected way too many but never can be persuaded to use them!  Tiff's black .5 pens she carries in her shop are my all time favs! Smooth, fine and black is always in style.

If you could designed your own stickers set, what would it be?

I imagine how Scarlet O'hara would plan and create something along the lines of southern sorority sister/belle functional stickers!   We are all sisters here in the planner world, let's celebrate it with some funky, spicy, happy hospitality!

If you are looking for functional and simplicity, Kim, is your gal! Read on to see how you can create some DIY pockets for your wire bound planner.

Sometimes, as a wire-o bound planner girl, I kinda feel left out. All those fabulous ring bound ladies have pockets, in the front and back to put all their ephemera and cute clips in. Seeing all this makes me pout a bit. All I have is a whole lot of real estate (which I need, BTW) but moaning about what I don’t have isn’t going to help me, creating what I lack in my planner IS!

Using some of that awesome space, I wanted to tell you how to make your own weekly spread planner pocket in this first blog post! You can also watch my Plan with Me on You Tube [channel: krodesigns] for the September Villabeautifful ‘Hey Girl Hey’ Kit. It quickly shows how to do it!

For this week, I used the VillaBeautifful Black and white stripe 5 x 7 inch calling card and trimmed it so it wasn’t quite as tall.

Next, all you have to do is tape or glue stick on three sides and adhere it to your planner and voilà you have a pocket ready to fill with all the shiny bits! Seems simple enough, but you can always personalize it with ephemera or stickers or follow one of my variations, one of which I showed on the You Tube video.

In the video, I made a slit across that didn’t go all the way to either end about 1 inch down from the top so I could insert the cute ‘notes’ pad that was included in this month’s kit.

You could always make more than one slit to make ‘pockets’ to clip on to-do lists or more ephemera

Instead of slits you could add varying sizes of rectangular paper or larger ephemera on top (stuck down on three sides) to make mores dimensional pockets.

I absolutely think there is no reason why our planners can’t be as functional all the others. The best part about not having is that we can create our own with beautifful treats, like September’s, from Shop VillaBeautifful’s kits!

Thanks for stopping by, loves!
