Mermaid Tales Shaker Dashboard with Chinky

Posted on October 02 2016

This week brings the first posts from the Villabeautifful Design Team. Today Chinky has a beautiful project using the Mermaid Tales Stickers from May's VB Kit. But first here's a little bit about her!

Brief background of who you are, what you do, etc. Basically a 411 of YOU!

Hi planner lovers! I'm Chinky and I'm completely honored and thrilled to be part of ShopVillabeautifful's first design team and stoked to start this journey with all the creative ladies on the team.

My real name is Liona Jeane, pretty far from my nickname right? And you can see me on Instagram as @lionachinky. I live in the tropical but mostly hot & sunny, Philippines. I currently teach kindergarten but graduated with a degree in Special Education. I am a teacher at heart and a crafter for life and I've been happily integrating my crafting into my teaching and planning for several years now.

I got introduced to all these planning materials when I won a Filofax planner, washi tapes and clear stamps through a giveaway in 2014. The hoarding and enabling started shorty after...oops! I love doilies and obsessed with anything along the colors of mint, teal and aqua and anything gold. I love coffee and spicy food and a surprise and slightly unacceptable to some, I don't like milk chocolate and sweet ripe mangoes.

Who or What inspire you the most?

I find my daily inspiration from my family and friends but as a teacher, I also find inspiration from my students too.

I know that I get even more inspired when I'm in a fun, stress-free and positive environment. I believe that being happy is the key to be successful in life and for creative juices to flow naturally.

Describe your style of planning and what planner(s) are you using at the moment?

I'd like to think that I use a hybrid of different planning styles but with consistent focus on decorating with functionality. I love making my planner pages pretty, but I also love being organized and able to track and see what is actually going on in my life. That's where the different types of planners and sections in my planner/s come in.

I am currently using a personal binder (which I change almost every week depending on my theme ) as my main planner which includes my monthly, weekly, daily and lists. I also use the Back to Basics Planner from CNSDesigns as my desk-at-home planner, a fauxdori that holds notebooks for my social media, work on-the-go and lesson planning and a MAMBI Happy Planner as a memory planner.

What is your must-have planner supplies or planner accessories?

I never leave home without my Pigma Micron 03 archival ink pen, a hard tip calligraphy pen, decorative stickers , some clear stamps and versafine Black onyx ink in my supplies pouch.

If you could designed your own stickers set, what would it be?

It would probably be focused on the colors mint and sparkly gold with touches of black and powder pink. Decorative elements would contain tea party set, doilies, pastries and girls in pretty floral dresses on their way to a tea party.

Now that you know a little bit about Chinky, take a look at her first VB project!

Hello beautifful girls! Chinky here for my very first blog post for Shopvillabeautifful!

You guys, I am so excited to start the fun with my favourite stickers to date. If you follow me on Instagram, you’d know how obsessed I am with anything along the colors of mint, aqua and teal. Naturally, my favourite VB stickers are from the Mermaid Tales kit, released in May, which goes along the lines of my favorite colors. I recently received a pocket slim Filofax Lockwood aqua and I thought they’re a perfect match. Aren’t they gorgeous altogether?

There have been so many craft tools released recently but I know we can’t have them all. So today I will show you how easy it is to make a shaker dashboard showcasing the Mermaid Tales stickers without any kind of fuse tool simply because, I don’t have one but that didn’t stop me. I swear it’s so easy and pretty that I actually made it in less than 10 minutes! By the way, the Mermaid Tales decorating kit was released in May with 6 sticker sheets which includes clear tape, decorative stickers and planner set stickers such as page flags, labels and shapes.

Okay, so all you need is a top loading card or ID holder that is not too thick so you can punch on the sides. I’m such you can find similar ones at any office supplies store. Since it is already sealed on the sides and bottom, you will only need to worry how to close up one opening! I did not show you the process how to do it since I already had my pre-punched card holders at hand but I hope you get the idea. I trimmed a piece of paper, with blue to yellow green gradation, according to the size of my card holder then rounded the corners on all sides.

I added a piece of doily at the bottom plus some Mermaid Tales clear tape to act as the sand bar. See how cute the fishes are swimming under the waves?

Then, I added some of the small fish and clam stickers across the card to be more decorative and that ‘seas the day’ sticker is so witty, I needed to use it!

We’re almost done! I sprinkled different shades of aqua sequins inside the card holder but made sure I had enough to shake around. It’s also important not to put too much because if you add too plenty, it won’t shake at all. Also, because my sequins are bigger than my punched holes, it won’t escape through it but if you have a smaller one-hole punch, that would be better to use.

Now comes to the last part, I used the Mermaid Tales page flags as added decoration and to seal one part of the slit, then used one of the Mermaid Tales clear tape to seal it off completely so nothing spills. I didn’t even need to put glue, double-sided tape or anything! If I had thought about this card holder trick earlier, I would’ve done so many shakers by now!

That’s about it! Remember, Tiff creates every Villabeautifful sticker with so much thought and care. She knows that aside from your planner spreads, you can use it for so many projects and a dashboard is just one of them. I hope this inspires you to think outside the box and realize how many fun projects you can do with the things you can get from ShopVillabeautifful.

I hope you enjoyed reading through my first blog! Lemme know what you think and see you around!

Chinky, I’ve been sharing this post with friends ever since I’ve seen this. I would get friends asking how to make a shaker, and the images in your post is so perfect, plus it’s perfect for those without a fuse tool!
