Today I’m going to show you how to start a morning routine using the VB Wellness Journal from the May Be Well VBKit. I’ve always been really interested in starting a morning routine; however, I haven’t been the best at sticking with one. So when I received the VB Wellness Journal, I wanted to really give it a try.

Over the last couple weeks, I’ve gathered some tips to help develop a morning routine.
It must work for you What works for one person might not work for all. Maybe you really are not a morning person at all, then maybe an evening routine would work better for you. Make it work for you and you will be more likely to stick with it. I absolutely love sipping my coffee slowly in the morning, so sitting down to journal while sipping my coffee makes me look forward to getting up a little earlier each day.
Brainstorm and decide what you want to achieve What is the whole goal of creating a morning routine for you? What do you want to achieve during this morning routine and why? Be sure to write it down so you can come back to it. This will give you motivation and some structure to your routine. Here is a list of things I wanted to achieve with a morning routine:
Do normal “get ready for work” routine
Have some time to reflect and relax, focus my thoughts for the day
Write an entry in my VB Wellness Journal to set intentions and goals for the day
Leave for work on time
Build slowly and try to work it into existing routine Instead of saying you’ll wake up a whole hour earlier from the start, try 15 minutes earlier, then work your way up. Making coffee was already part of my existing routine, so now while my coffee maker is heating up, I start filling out the left side of my VB Wellness Journal to record my hours of sleep, my mood, and my energy level. All those spaces are very quick to complete for me.
Prepare the night before Can you shorten your existing routine by getting anything ready the night before? I know I could lay out my clothes the night before instead of standing in front of my closet for 10 minutes in the morning. That’s 10 extra minutes to complete the other sections on the left side of the VB Wellness Journal.
Write out or print a list of your favorite daily affirmations This way you have a quick and easy reference and don’t have to spend time searching for one each morning.
Stick with it, even if you don’t feel like it, and adapt If I’m honest, I missed a morning here or there, and that’s ok, be kind to yourself too. I turned those into an evening routine instead and completed it before going to bed. One morning I wrote, “It was hard to wake up, but I made myself be here”. Show up for yourself, because you deserve it.
